Landon Johnson – LB, Carolina Panthers

The season-ending ACL injury suffered by Carolina linebacker (and leading tackler) Thomas Davis thrusts Landon Johnson into the Panthers’ starting lineup, and there’s ample reason to believe that Johnson will produce solid fantasy numbers in that role. The 6th year pro has shown ability in the past, leading the Bengals in tackles three times (including 100+ tackle seasons in 2006 and 2007), the Panthers’ use of more Cover-2 looks defensively means more tackles are being “funneled” to the weakside (accounting in part for Davis’ big season), and Johnson will likely be three-down LB. Add that all together, and for scrambling Davis owners (or anyone searching for LB help) Johnson’s name should likely top IDP claim lists.
